Health hazards

The biggest health hazard of plastic containers stems from its infamous leaching effect. Upon exposure to slightly higher temperature conditions and even prolonged storage of constituents in the plastic items under standard conditions, harmful chemicals such as Antimony, Lead, Cadmium, and DEHP (the most common phthalate class) are leached into the stored items which results in consequential health damages. Apart from leaching, micro versions of plastics or microplastics present in most home care products also directly or indirectly enter the body causing a plethora of damages.

Some health hazards caused due to plastic, as highlighted in multiple medical studies and reports are—

  • Cardiovascular diseases
  • Liver and kidney damages
  • Blood pressure complications
  • Endocrine problems
  • Respiratory diseases
  • Multiple chronic ailments
  • Pregnancy problems and miscarriages
  • Impaired immunity
  • Birth defects of newborns
  • Decreased hormonal levels
  • Reproductive problems
  • Increased adiposity and insulin resistance
